What can see like a fun way to pass the time, can soon turn into an addiction. Excessive gaming can be just as harmful to your health as any other kind of addiction such as smoking or alcoholism. A study completed last year by ScienceDaily showed that excessive gamers generally get less sleep than they should, and that gamers who admitted to being addicted actually admitted that they tend to get approximately one hours’ sleep in a night. The recommended amount of sleep for average adults is 8 hours per night. Not only does it affect sleep patterns, sitting on the sofa for hours on end can lead to conditions such as obesity and diabetes.

This might not sound too bad on first hearing, but children need exercise, they need to develop their social life and they need to be able to run about and play with friends like so many generations before them have. It has also been highlighted that children who spend long periods of time in front of a TV screen while playing these games, are damaging their eyesight. Focusing on one thing for a long time without having some sort of break can lead to eye strain, and in some cases can cause permanent damage.
